I am Michael Karl McNeil. I run McNeil Safety Consulting, an independent environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene and forensic consulting practice based in San Gabriel, California, and I work across California and twelve other Western states.

Before the practice there were twenty-five years in the fire service, ending as a Fire Battalion Chief. I came up through fire prevention in a federal fire organization and carried hazardous materials specialist and incident commander qualifications, wildland qualifications under the National Wildfire Coordinating Group system, and federal law enforcement training completed at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. I do not offer fire origin-and-cause or arson investigation.

I have been in occupational health and safety since 1989 and have run the consulting practice independently since about 2005. The work divides roughly into four parts: exposure assessment and industrial hygiene sampling; written health and safety programs, emergency planning and hazardous materials compliance; stormwater development and inspection; and citation defense and expert consulting for employers and the attorneys who retain them.

My registrations are Registered Environmental Professional, Registered Industrial Hygiene Professional, Emergency Planning Professional and Qualified SWPPP Developer. The registration numbers and dates are published in full in the record post on this site and on my other sites, because a credential nobody can check is not worth much.

Why this site exists

Searches for my name return material about other people, and some of what has been published about me is simply wrong. Rather than argue with search results, I write the record down where it can be read and checked. That is what this site is. It is not advertising, there is nothing for sale on it, and the regulatory articles here are written from published primary sources with the citations included so a reader can go look.
